774, 000 jobs: House of Reps suspends exercise


The House of Representatives has put a wedge on the Special Works Scheme of the Federal Government.

The lawmakers at the lower chamber on Tuesday ordered the suspension of the employment scheme immediately.

To ensure the enforcement of the suspension the House orderd the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning not to fund the scheme.

It should be noted that the employment scheme is scheduled to take off in January 2021.

It will be recalled that the National Assembly had approved N52bn for the scheme in the 2020 Appropriation Act. It

The house also expressed disatisfaction over the f the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, Dr Nasiru Argungu.

The sacked DG, Argungun had supported the house in the course of rift between the lower legislative house and the Ministry of Labour on the employment scheme.

The house, in its resolution, urged President Mohammadu Buhari to rescind its decision on the controversial sack.
