The Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has spoken out against the censorship of an online newspaper, GazetteNGR by the Federal Government.
He expressed disatisfaction via his Tweeter handle on Thursday.
He noted that as a man who believes in press freedom, he would always kick against any move to bully the press.
Acccording to him, the constitution has given Nigerians unlimited freedom of access to free press and speech and the right must not be tampered with.
He said: “I have received with concern, reports of technical censorship of@GazetteNGR, an independent online newspaper, ostensibly by agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria. This is not acceptable.
“As a Democrat and believer in press freedom, I denounce every attempt to gag the media in Nigeria.
“I do so because I know that our democracy is benchmarked on the principle of a republican government and that the people of Nigeria deserve to have access to information about the workings of the government.
