A leaked memo has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari knew about the reinstatement of wanted former Chairman of the Pension Reforms Commission, Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service.
The Punch reports that the memo written by the Head of Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita was sent to the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari.
The memo, titled “Re: Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina,” with reference number HSCSF/HCSF/LU/COR/FCSC/750/T, was received in the office of the Chief of Staff to the President on 23 October, the Punch reports.
Advise to Buhari
According to it, Oyo-Ita said she advised Buhari against it as, according to her, it would dent the anti-corruption war of his administration.
Maina was dismissed in 2013 by the Federal Civil Service Commission over accusation of massive pension fraud scheme amounting to more than N100billion.
Explaining further, said she met the President after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of Wednesday, October 11, where she warned him against bringing Maina back to the service.
“Please, note that the OHCSF was never in agreement with the reinstatement and consequently never conveyed the approval of the FCPC to A. A. Maina, nor approved his posting to the Ministry of Interior or any other MDA,” part of the memo sighted by the Punch read.
“Rather, I sought audience with His Excellency, Mr. President on Wednesday, 11th October, 2017 after the FEC meeting where I briefed His Excellency verbally on the wide-ranging implications of the reinstatement of Mr. A. A. Maina, especially the damaging impact on the anti-corruption stance of this administration.”
