Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha has come under huge criticism for renaming Maria Assumpta Avenue, Muhammadu Buhari Way.

Catholic faithful in the state expressed displeasure over the renaming of the avenue by demolishing the brick board on which it was written.

Speaking on the issue to Daily Sun, a resident of Owerri and a catholic, Sunny Okechukwu said Okorocha’s action is not only an insult to the Catholic Church but altogether to stir trouble as such decision cannot stand.

He said while nobody is against the naming of streets by the governor, he cannot just change the name just like that.

Also, Malachy Okorie, another Catholic member, said the renaming shows that the governor has become an emperor who does whatever he likes and does not care what the people think or feel about his actions.

He pointed out that the controversial renaming is simply to start another problem with the Catholic Church which he thinks has been critical about his anti-people policies.

Similarly another member, John Amadi noted that the governor can name any street, but should be the roads that he built and not those built by others.
