President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Tripartite National Minimum Wage Committee to ensure its duties are carried out based on social justice and equity.
The President stated this on Monday during the inauguration ceremony of the Committee at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The President whp described Minimum wage as the minimum amount of compensation an employee must receive for putting in his or her labour, said such should be anchored on Social Justice and Equity.
President Buhari compared the workers in the country to those in other parts of the world, saying they are important elements that determine the growth and development of any country.
He also said it was necessary for each tier of government to improve workers’ welfare by targeting more than their basic social protection floor.
He added that the Committee is expected to complete its deliberations and submit its report and recommendations as soon as possible to enable other requisite machinery to be set in motion for implementation of a new National Minimum Wage.
