Mr. Ayotomiwa Elegbeleye has narrated his ordeal in the hands of the scrapped Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
While testifying before the Ekiti State Judicial Panel of Inquiry into Allegations of Police Brutality, the thirty-year old man said he was nabbed by SARS operatives in his residemre in Ikere-Ekiti on January 7, 2020, and was detained in their custody .
Elegbeleye who was brought from correctional center lamented that he was tied with a rod and was tortured him with pressing iron for 23 days due to his refusal to pay N500,000 requested by the operaatoope.
While testifying, he showed the the panel the scars off the injuries he sustained while he was in the custody.
He said: “I was hanged up with a rod. I gasped for breath begging them to release me but they said I would only be released with a payment of N500,000.
“After 23 days in their custody and with serious bodily injuries, they took me to the police hospital in Oke-Isa when they felt I might die due to my deteriorating health condition.”
Speaking, the counsel to the police said a case of the alleged murder, and armed robbery leveled against Elegbeleye is still pending pending at the State High Court.
