The Minister for Information and Culture, who is the national image builder of Nigeria, Lai Mohammed says the allegation made by the United States that Nigeria is violating religious freedom is not true.
According to Mohammed, the US and the whole world should know that Nigeria doesn’t have any policy on religious oppression.
He made this statement on Monday in his response to US allegation states by Secretary of States, Mike Pompeo.
Mohammed claimed that the statement made by US stems from honest disagreement between the two countries on the origin of violence.
“Nigeria does not engage in religious freedom violation, neither does it have a policy of religious persecution.
“Victims of insecurity and terrorism in the country are adherents of Christianity, Islam, and other religions,’’ he said.
Mohammed said that Nigerian constitution allows for freedom of worship and religion which the country guides
said Nigeria jealously protects religious freedom as enshrined in the country’s constitution and takes seriously any infringements in this regard.
