Why I slapped police officer publicly- Seun Kuti

Seun Kuti, the son of Afro-beat king, the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has explained why he publicly slapped a police officer in uniform.

The afrobeat singer was seen in a viral video assaulting the officer.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has, therefore, directed the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to immediately arrest Seun.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP has also ordered a thorough and speedy investigation into the incident to determine the underlying cause of the assault.

The statement added that the suspect will be prosecuted according to the findings of the investigation.

Reacting to the incident, on instastory, a social media platform on Saturday, Seun said the officer attempted to harm him and his family, adding that the policeman had since apologised and he had forgiven him.

“He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof, but I’m not seeking attention. He has apologised, and I have agreed not to press charges. Please mind your business and ensure the poor guy doesn’t lose his job,” Seun said.

His action has since attracted condemnation on social media.

Another Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, recently had spats with police, he was arrested and taken to court but later granted bail.
