The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that the state will soon shut down telecommunications services.
According to him, the shutdown is necessary because security operatives have prepared to launch offensives against bandits terrorizing parts of the state.
He made the announcement on Tuesday in a chat with some radio stations.
He assured that some parts of the state would not be affected,
He said that only the local governments facing unrest birthed by incessant attacks by the bloodthirsty bandits would be affected.
The move is expected to cripple communications in the affected areas as phone calls and internet browsing will be stopped.
He said, “We have been advised by the military and other security agencies to shut down telecommunication services in certain LGAs but we are waiting for the security agencies to tell us which specific areas and when.
“But I want the people of Kaduna State to know that if they give us the go-ahead tomorrow [Wednesday], we will shut down tomorrow.”
Some states including Zamfara had recently recorded successes in the fight against insurgents after shutting down the services.
It was learnt that residents of the state had resorted to old means of communication including letter-writing due to unavailability of the telecommunication services.
