Contrary to reports that he has been released from detention, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Lawyer to the former Senate President, Mike Ozekhome  insisted that he is being kept in ‘inhuman and degrading condition.’

Ozekhome described earlier reports by the EFCC that Anyim has been released as misleading. He said in spite of fulfilling all administrative bail conditions, Anyim is still in the custody of the anti-graft agency.

The EFCC had earlier obtained a court warrant to keep Anyim in its custody. He was arrested for allegedly collecting the sum of N520 million from a former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Less than two days after his arrest, reports indicated that the EFCC released Anyim and instructed that he should report to the Commission every two weeks after meeting his bail conditions.

Ozekhome, therefore, asked the Attorney General of the Federation to prevail on the EFCC to respect the rule of law and the Constitution by releasing Anyim.
