June 12: Fani-Kayode commends Buhari for honouring MKO

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has lauded Muhammadu Buhari, the President of Nigeria for honouring the winner of June 12 , 1993 Presidential election, MKO Abiola.

Buhari in a statement cancelled May 29, as the public holiday for Democracy Day replacing it with June 12.

He also conferred a posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).

He also conferred Abiola’s Vice, Babagana Kingibe with Grand Commander of Niger (GCON).

He also honoured late human right activist, Gani Fawehinmi with GCON for his fight for sustenance of democracy.

Fani-Kayode, a staunch critic of Buhari took to his Twitter handle to laud the announcement.

” I commend @MBuhari for announcing June 12th as our new Democracy Day. This is long overdue and I am pleasantly surprised.I also commend him for honoring Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12th 1993 presidential election, with the posthumus award of GCON.This is great news!,” he wrote.
