Lagos Task Force Seizes 64 Tricycles for Violating Traffic Laws

The Lagos State Task Force has confiscated no fewer than 64 commercial motorcycles (okadas) for illicitly operating on prohibited routes and highways, blatantly defying the state’s traffic statutes.

This enforcement initiative, part of the state’s relentless endeavor to uphold lawfulness and order on its thoroughfares, was spearheaded by the Task Force Chairman, Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Adetayo Akerele.

As stated by the agency, this crackdown occurred on Monday, October 27, 2025, and primarily targeted negligent motorcyclists, street vendors, unlawful parking operators, and various transgressors across key highways and inner city pathways within the Lagos Mainland.

Commencing around 11:00 a.m., the operation was executed in alignment with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, which strictly prohibits Okada operations on designated highways and major thoroughfares within the state.

Areas encompassed during the operation included Ebute Metta, the Gbagada–Oshodi Expressway, Oshodi–Apapa Expressway, Lagos–Badagry Expressway, and select segments of Surulere Local Government Area, among other restricted routes.

The enforcement squad also diligently patrolled chief roads such as Apapa Road, Murtala Mohammed Way, Herbert Macaulay Road, Western Avenue, Iganmu Roundabout, Eric Moore Road, Bode Thomas, Babs Animashaun Street, Ogunlana Drive, Itire Link Bridge, Muyiwa Opaleye Street, Odo-Olowu, Gbagada–Anthony Expressway, Ikorodu Road, 2nd Rainbow, and Alakija.

Reaffirming the government’s staunch commitment to reinstating discipline on Lagos roads, the Task Force articulated that the operation was formulated to mitigate lawlessness, bolster road safety, and safeguard lives and property.

“The Lagos State Government remains resolute in its enforcement of the Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, which prohibits Okada on restricted highways and major routes,” the statement declared.

“Our objective is to ensure safety, orderly conduct, and the uninterrupted flow of traffic statewide. This enforcement campaign will persist until complete adherence is attained.”
