Politicians are the architects of cultism in the Southeast, not IPOB – Lawyer

Human rights advocate, Chidi Odinkalu, has asserted that it is the politicians who bear responsibility for the escalating insecurity plaguing the Southeast region of Nigeria, asserting that they are the clandestine backers of cult operations in this area.

Odinkalu made this striking assertion on Thursday in response to inquiries during an interview segment on ‘Politics Today’, a program aired on Channels Television and closely followed by DAILY POST.

He criticized those who exclusively link the troubling developments to the now-banned Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

While he acknowledged that the separatist movements contribute to the region’s insecurity, he contended that the belief that every challenge in the Southeast can be attributed to IPOB is absurd.

“Let me elucidate: the predominant single issue, in terms of security, facing the Southeast—based on my extensive work and analysis—is, to my great dismay, not IPOB; it is encapsulated in one word: cults, financially underwritten by politicians.

“Indeed, the cults represent the foremost challenge, and you are utterly unaware of how dire the cult problem is in the Southeast at this juncture,” he articulated.

His remarks come in the wake of increasing insecurity in several South-Eastern states, which security agencies and analysts have predominantly linked to the activities of IPOB.
