Vigilantes thwart IPOB assault in Anambra, eliminate one suspect

A presumed affiliate of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed faction, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), was fatally shot on Monday amidst a fierce shootout with local vigilantes in the Ezinifite community, situated within the Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Sources revealed to Zagazola Makama that the dramatic incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m., when approximately 15 armed intruders descended upon the community from the adjacent Imo State via the Amalum Village boundary.
According to members of the Agunechamba Vigilante Group, the assailants were believed to be on an aggressive mission to strike the community before they were intercepted, resulting in an intense exchange of gunfire.
During the bloody confrontation, one of the assailants was decisively brought down, while others fled into nearby thickets, sustaining gunshot injuries. A pump-action shotgun was retrieved from the deceased suspect, whose remains were subsequently transported to the Ezinifite mortuary.
Police tactical squads were dispatched to the scene; however, the attackers had already vacated the premises prior to their arrival. The area has since been secured as joint security forces and local vigilantes continue to conduct extensive combing operations in an effort to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Security sources lauded the vigilance group for their rapid response and urged local residents to maintain tranquility while collaborating with security agencies to ensure enduring peace in the region.
