The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, says system failure led to the recent abduction of 110 schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe state.

In a series of tweet on Monday, Onochie, while condemning the latest attack in Taraba state which left 20 people dead, described such acts as evil.

The presidential Aide said if those who were saddled with the responsibility of protecting the Chibok girls abducted on April 14, 2014 were punished, the Dapchi abduction would not have happened.

“We have a culture of not punishing those who do wrong. Consequently, we experience system failures. If those whose duty it was to protect the Chibok Girls were arrested, tried and jailed, we would have been saved the repeated agony of the Dapchi Girls. No consequences meted.

“If those whose duty it was to arrest, try and jail Agric Criminals did their jobs according to the law, without fear or favour, we would have been saved the repeated agony of the subsequent killings of farmers, herdsmen and families in community clashes,” she tweeted.

Onochie also alleged that the 2014 abduction of over 200 schoolgirls were swept under the carpet by the past administration despite world outrage. She accused the past administration of having lived in total denial on issues surrounding the abduction of the girls.

Onochie added that despite the effort of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, the present government is constantly being abused and harassed for upholding justice and fighting corruption.

“Unless we allow the law to go after the smell of crimes by punishing those who break our laws, irrespective of their status and who they know in our nation, the system that failed the Chibok and the Dapchi Girls will continue unabated. Sadly, lives will continue to be lost,” she added.
